We are Edo and Rika Meulenkamp and we are "contained" with the Bernese Mountain Dog virus.
It all started one time when we were at a vet and Rika saw a picture of a Bernese Mountain Dog. Then Rika said to Edo: "That's the dog
I would like to have!".

And that's one of the reasons we began to breed our first litter of pups in 1995.
We had 9 pups! We were a little bit frightenend, but everything went allright.

 

Goal

The main reason we began to breed Bernese Mountain Dogs is the fact that there are to many "bad" Bernese Mountain Dogs. With "bad" dogs we mean dogs which have disorders like hip dysplasie and elbow dysplasie. That's why we work very carefully when we're going to breed a litter of pups.

When we're looking for a breed-dog we will always check his pedigree to exclude the dog from HD and ED. And we will check the pedigree of his parents and his grandparents. If everything is allright, then we will decide which we use this dog for breeding or not.

The so called bread-breeders mostly don't check the pedigrees. These people only care about the money they will earn because of selling the pups. And money isn't our motive! We breed Bernese Mountain Dogs because we think they are the most beautiful, loving and nicest dogs of the world, and we will do everything in our power to breed a healthy litter of pups.

The pups grow up in an environment where they are often visited by people. The pups do like this very much and it will also help the pups to grow up as social dogs which are comfortable to be with people. Also our own dogs grew up and live in an environment where they can play outside and where they can be with us in our house where they'll keep us company.

Résumé, it has our highest priority to breed healthy and lovely dogs!
